chapter 9 Hanz Stolman

Hanz Stolman was born in a liitle village  in the mountains in Germany called  Oberstdorf.
It was a beautiful little village filled with many scenic views of conblestone  roads ans horses and small homes. There was a church at the bottom of the mountain. On sunday the church bells rang througout the village. It was a wintery January , the towns people were walking thrunthe snow to get to the church on time to hear the father benedict give his weekly sermon.  Everybody knew in advance about the sermon. Germany was suffering economicaly. Their were many people unemployed. It was impossible to find work.
Father Benedict talked about oppurtunities in America. There was many job oppurtunities in America. America was thriving. Wildred Stolman listened imtently to the sermon and made his decision to send his son Hanz to America. Hanz was 10 years old. Wildred wanted a better future for Hanz. He heard about New York City and the growth it was experiencing. Wilfred also decided to send his daughter hanna also to NYC with Hanz,
Hana was a beautiful 15 yr old young lady. Blonde hear, blue eyes, she looked 25 Yrs old.
The following week Hanz and his sister hanna embarked on a big ship filled with german immigrants heading for America. They were to live with Wildred's cousin Karl.
When hanz and hanna arrived they were examined medically and waited for Karl to take them to their new home. Karl never came, he died of a heart attack a few days before the ship landed. The officials decided that the two were to be taken to an orphanage.
Hanz and Hanna escaped into the city. They wandered , and looked for a place to eat and stay. They met up with two strange men, The two men invited them up to their apartment
for dinner. Hanz and Hanna gladly accepted. These two men were just let out of jail
for sexually abusing children.  While in the apartment the two men raped Hanna. Hanna
screamed and screamed. While her little brother watched in shock. He jumped on the two men but was thrown like a rag to the floor. They killed Hanma in front of Hanz's eyes.
Hanz escaped and ran crying. Telling himself that I will get revenge, I will kill these men one day. He looked at the street sign and the apartment and kept it in his mind.
Hanz wandered aimlessly through the city, until he found a church. He walked in and found an older man walking around. Can I help you? said  father patrick, Hanz , did  not understand english, he spoke in german that he was hungry. Father Patrick answered him in german that he will serve him lunch. Fahter took the boy to an orphanage. It was full of homeless children.  He was taken in and shared a bug room with  300 boys. The first night Hanz
fell asleep and a young man in his 40 s covered his mouth and said do not talk.
He took hanz into the library and sexually abused him. Hanz fought and fought and tried to escape. Tom  was the care keeper. He abused all the children. The children were
too afraid to say anything. For the next 2 years he continued to abuse Hanz both emotionally and sexually. Finally Hanz escaped from the orphanage and found refuge
in a farm outside of the city. Hanz worked all day for his stay. He milked the cows every
morning, took care of the chickens, and kept the farm clean. He was a hard worker,
Max Jacob and his wife Sarah adopted Hanz. He was well taken care of .
Hanz turned 16 and became a big strong young man. He informed Max that he would like to go to the city for a few days. Max agreed and Hanz traveled to the city .
His first stop was the orphanage. He entered and saw the care keeper. Tom looked up
at the young man . Can I help you. Yes, I would like to visit the orphanage, can you show me around.?Tom said , sure. Follow me. here is where the boys sleep. Hanz looked at the small room down the hall. What is that over there ?said Hanz. Oh that is the library. Can I see it?
Sure, Hanz picked up a broom that was on the floor. You do not have to do that said Tom,
I hate messy places said Hanz. Here is the library. There were some children reading .
Hanz suddenly grabbed Tom and asked him. Do you remember  me?No said Tom.
Hanz grabbed , kicked, and punched Tom until he could not breathe. Now do you remeber
me? Tom could not talk. Look at me  .!!!! Tom was bleeding all over. Pull down your pants !yelled Hanz.  You crazy? No No!, Hanz ripped off Toms' pants. He then shoved the broom up his rectum as fas as it could go. Tom screamed and screamed. The children
kept reading as if nothing happened. Now do you remeber me said Hanz. I am Hanz Stolman the little boy you rapped for two years. Tom cried and cried,, Now you will necer rape another child. Hanz took out a knife and cut off Toms genitals . Tom screamed. Hanz spit on him . You pig,, rot in hell!,  Hanz walked out of the orphanage calmly as if nothing happened. He proceeded down to the lower east side of NYC where his sister Hanna was killed. He knocked on the apt door , an old woman answered the door. Hanz asked her if the two men lived there, No she said.  They moved a few blocks down in that building.
I do not know which apt . Hanz stayed in front of the building  all night. It was 8 am
, Hanz saw one of the men starting to walk towards the corner store. Hanz approached him. Hi said Hanz, remember me? The man ignored him. Hanz grabbed him by the throat.
Take me to your apt now or I will kill you. The man struggled but Hanz chocked him.
Ok ok,, The two men walked up two flights of stairs. He opened the apt door. and there was his friend. Whats going on yelled the other man. You remember  me? no!!!!
You killed my sister Hanna, now will kill you. Hanz broke the window , took a piece of glass and placed it on the table.  Take your clothes off yelled Hanz..The two men took there clothes off. You , cut your friends' testicles off with this glass. No!! are you crazy?
If you do not I will cut yours off. I Cant!! I cant !!! ok let me help you. Hanz took the glass and blood flew everywhere, the man screamed. Hanz picked up the man and threw him out the apt window, he landed on the sidewalk screaming.  Hanz did the same with the other man.
Hanz traveled back to the farm. He was a very angry young man. The Jacobs decided to
buy a heavy boxing bag so Hanz could take his anger out on it. Everyday Hanz hit the bag
for hours . Yelling and screaming. Hanz decided to train at the boys club gym in NYC.
He was a good prospect.

Chapter 8 The Fighter

chapter 8
In walked the SantaMaria brothers Angelo and Frank.  Hi boys said Murray.
Great to see you two, how are things going in the resteraunt? Find said Angelo.
We just are checking in to see how our business is doing here said Angelo.
By the way you know my nephew Nick?  Sure said Irwin.  Well we want him to fight opening day.    No, no way said Irwin.  Nick has  been disqualified for hitting below the belt and biting too many times. He is a dirty fighter.  I do not care said Angelo he is fighting opening day. I want him to fight against that german kid Hanz Stolman. Against Stolman!!!?
What? said Irwin... Stolman will beat him in the first round.   Hah hah!!!  let me inform you that Nick has a new trainer,, he is faster than any fighter on the lower east side.
By the way Angelo, we will not allow any betting at the fight,, what you do is your business, I do not want to know about it, said Irwin.
I want Nick to headline..  Have the printers prepare the following..
Nick Santamaria.. the fastest fighter in the world, fights against Hanz Stolman
the strongest and toughest fighter in the world.    This will be a sellout I am sure said Frank.
With out a doubt , said Murray.    Murray proceeded to talk... this will be the fight of the century. These two kids will put on some fight, that is if what you have been saying is true that your nephew Nick Is faster than before. The only thing he was lacking was speed.
He has a great left jab..his right is the most powerful right I have seen.
But he has always been caught by a suprise punch because he could not move well.
And Stolman,, wow!!! this kid is a beast... He trains with a sledge hammer hitting stones.
He trains with weights tied to his body,,, punches the bag while holding thirty lb weights
in each hand.  We had to replace 2 heavy bags here because he ripped them to shreads.
He is a real animal!!!!
Do you know the history about Hanz Stolman , Angelo?  Angelo looked at Murray intensly, no I do not.  It is a story that will make your hair stand up .
Do you gentleman have a minute? I will tell it to you.

chapter 6 The Fighter

chapter 6
Tim left the gym and already formulated a plan how is was to obtain the $600 needed to renovate the gym. He worked the following day at the butcher shop and then went home to eat dinner. Adaline cooked Tims favorite ,Rice and beans. Wow! fantastic Adaline.
I am going to Kellys to propose a business deal to the patrons Tim told bis wife.
Ok Tim, dont stay out too late.
Their were the usual people in the pub. Hi Tim said Jim the bartender,
Heh Jim. Give me a beer.  Tim drank by himself for a few minutes
while  writing some things down on a piece of paper.
It was  8  00 pm .  The pub was full.  Tim stood up and yelled. Hello everybody ,
could I get your attention for a few minutes. Ok. everbody has been asking me where
can we have fight nights.  The patrons kept talking,, Tim yelled, I know of a place where we can have fights and bet on the them. And I know the patroleman on that beat  so we will not have trouble with  the law.  You could hear a pin drop as everone in the pub listened with disbelief.  Where is this place yelled John Rud.  In heaven? Hah hah. No yelled Tim. 4 blocks away.  The boys club.   We can use it all night. Here is the provlem. I need $600
to renovate it. Renovate! yelled john. We just need a basement for our type of fights.
The  600 will keep the police off our backs and allow me to use the gym during the evenings.
So if everyone would care to chip in little we can get started within a month.
I will pass a bucket around and throw in what you can.  You can hear the clanking  of coins into the bucket as it was passed around.  There where 100 patrons in the pub. Tim was calculating he would  raise about $200   .  Tim took the bucket and started counting the momey.   To his surprise he counted  $ 392.39.  We are short $300 yelled Tim.
Times are tough yelled John,  Most of us are barely scraping by Tim.  I will get the rest said Tim. Thankyou fight fans yelled Tim. I promise you we will have our first fight in one month. Put it on your calander.  Tuesday  9 00 pm.  How are you going to get the rest of the money yelled John.  That is  my secret John. Tim left and headed down to Santamarias
resteraunt.  The owner Angelo Santamaria owed Tim a huge favor.
Joe Mckenzie patroled  the neighborhood for 20 yrs. He was in his late 50s.
Joe  was a heavyset man with a reddish complexion.  Married with three children Joe
was a good father and husband.
Joe walked through the neigborhood
every night from 9 to 5 . About 3 yrs ago one  night he noticed a lot of people entering SantaMarias resteraunt. Much more than usual.   He entered the resteraunt and saw that there were
many men going into the back of the resteraunt.  Joe went to the very back and entered
a big smoked filled room.  There were men playing cards, placing bets on the next days horse races, and drinking whisky.   There were many women walking around and mingling with the guests, you could  smell the cheap perfume thru the room.  There was Italian music
being played in the backround.  The song Mama was heard ,being sung by Mario Lanza.
Heh yelled Joe where is Angelo? Hi Joe said Angelo.
How about a shot of this whisky. You know Angelo this is against the law! I am going to have to lock you all up. Come on Joe yelled Angelo. we are just having fun.  We enjoy handicapping Joe. Who do you like at Roosevelt  tomorrow?
I put $5 on lightning in the third race. You might want to box him Joe.  He is not the favorite but is a good long shot.
Look Angelo. I have to arrest......heh Joe yelled Tim Oriely. Why Tim what are you doing here?  What does it look like Joe? Tim?  you cant do this?  Joe was Tims Uncle on his Mothers side.  Uncle Joe relax, no one is hurting anybody.  Sit down and play cards , and enjoy, Tim signaled to one of the Women ( Wanda) to sit by Joe . Wanda started to rub against Joe and poured him a drink of whisky . Joe enjoyed himself that night and forgot about the gambling , prostitution, and drinking, that went on.  He frequently visited Santamarias and always asked for Wanda.
Tim  entered Santamarias. He saw Angelo.  Hi Tim, what brings you here? I need a favor from you Angelo. Ok. anything for you Tim. I need $300. Wow!
When do you need it by? As soon as possible. Mind if ask what the money is for?
Look Angelo . I have a business proposal for you. How would you like 5 percent ownership
at the boys club gym, and 50 percent split on fight nights?
What? Yes fight nights. We are going to have tuesday and friday fights at the gym.
It will not be open for the general public. It will be only be open to your guests and  the people at the Pub.
My uncle Joe walks the beat on tuesday  and friday evenings so we will not have any problems with the law. I like it Tim.  One second Tim. Heh Frank yelled Angelo.  Come here.
In walked Angelos brother Frank. Frank Santamaria was a rich and powerful man,
he comtrolled many of the businesses in  the lower east.
Yeh Angelo. what s doing? Hi Tim , said Frank. The two shook hands. Let me guess, said Frank.  Tim you need money. Well.....  how much you need Tim?
Tim needs $300 Frank , said Angelo. Frank without any hesitation walked torwards the end of the resteraunt ,
within a few minutes he came out counting bills of three hundred.
Here you go Tim.  Thanks Frank, I took care of the business arrangements with Angelo.
Tim, thats ok.  You are family.  The men shook hands. Tim left the resteraunt filled with
excitment about his new venture.  Heh Angelo, what is this deal you have with Tim.
Angelo explained everything to Frank. I like it said Frank. I like it very much.
You should have asked for 70 percent of the split. Its ok Frank, eventually we will own 100 percent, lets get in the door first.

chapter 5 The Fighter

Chapter 5
Tim opened the door to the boys gym. It was filled with sounds of punching bags and
weights dropping on the floor.  He noticed their were many young  prospects.
As he looked to his far left he saw Avi hitting the speed bag. 1 and a 2 and a 1 and a 2.
As Tim looked to his right he saw another young man hitting the light bag. 1   2    1    2   duck, move,  dance,   the young man was working the bag.
Hello Tim said Murray, I want you to meet Irwin one of the partners. Abe will be here in a few minutes. Oh said Tim. I just said goodye to him at the store. I  forgot you told me he was one of the partners.    So Tim what do you think of the Gym.  Tim walked around with Murray and Irwin Lipinsky.  It was a dingy gym,, dark, needed light and ventilation,
needed more equipment, the punching bags were ripped up due to the sweat and head buts.
It only had one boxing ring. It could use at least 3 more. The gym had plenty of room.
The weights were rusty. and scattered.  Sparring equpmemt needed to be ordered.
Well said Tim it needs a lot of work. It has potential though.
The problem Tim is we need funds. It is hard for us to find investors and donors.
Our people do not believe in this kind of sport. So we do not know where to look.
Abe just walked in. Oh here is the other partner. I guess you gentleman know each other said
Murray . Yes we do said Abe. Ok Tim. lets get to the point.  How much money do you think we need to make this into a viable boxing center? Tim thought carefully, after a few minutes he answered in a gruff manner, $600 and you have your boxing center.
Wow,, more than I thought.  How are we going to raise this amount of money said Murray.
Irwin responded, maybe you can sell your body on the side Murray to the ladies.
Ha ha laughed Murray , at least I have something to sell Irwin, I hear yours is not worth
one penny. You have to ask the butcher Abe, He will tell you laughed Irwin.
Ok guys, laughed Tim lets get serious.  I can get the funds, I know many people in the
neighborhood. Oh, look who we have here. Moses has come to save us laughed Irwin,
or beter Jesus Christ himself. How are you going to get this amount of money? laughed
Irwin. That is not the problem said Tim. Then what is the problem asked Irwin.
I want a share in the partnership said Tim. Oh laughed Irwin.
What chuzpa ! yelled Irwin. A real meshugana! Look at this Murray the Goyim coming here
and telling us how to run our business. I want 30 percent yelled Tim.
Wait a minute you Irish drumk yelled Irwin. There are 4 of us. That is 25 percent each.
30 percent yelled Tim and if you agitate me more yelled Tim in his Irish accent I will raise it to 35. Ok calm down gentleman yelled Murray. Tim,  you are being unreasonable said Murray. Look, you gentleman do not know what you are doing here. Thats obvious.
I promise you I will get the funds. I think $600 is more than fair to get 30 percent ownership. Also I get exclusive access to the gym after 9 00 pm.
9 00 pm to 5 00 am the gym is mine to do what I want.  Wait a minute yelled Irwin,
what kind of smucks to you think we are? Poor ones yelled Murray.
Abe , what do you think, asked Murray. I give Tim the green light. Done deal said Murray.
Tim you got yourself a deal. The four men shook hands. I will have the money in two days said Tim.

Mr. Santamaria who was opening his resteraunt .  He nodded to Mr. kopleman who was opening his deli.  The streets were buzzing with noise of fruit, and food carts passing thru the streets. Men yelling ,get your Apples, fruit, bread, were  heard thru out the streets.
It was a cool morning.
The cobblestone streets had a tint of light red as the sun started to rise.  The smell of food
was everywhere. The women were scrubbing the streets. The inhabitants
a mix of Italians, Jews and Irish took pride in their neighborhood. The streets were scrubbed. The sounds of brooms sweeping floors could be heard everywhere.
As tim looked up above he could see the women hamging up their familys clothes.
It was a colorful sight. Hi Moish said Tim as he passed by the tailors shop.
Heh how is Kelly yelled Moishe. Its time you buy him a suit Tim.
Yes. I will bring him in next week for you to fit him.  That Moish is a chacter, Tim said to himself.  Tim entered into Abes butcher shop. Good morning Abe. Good morning Tim.
Tim we have to cut up a lot of meat this morning. I got a good deal on a purchase of beef.
We will cut up half to be used as corned beef.  ok Abe I am ready.
Tim started cutting away, while thinking about the boys gym. He cut for 2 hours. He finished , it was more than usual. The store opened for customers at 7 am.
Mrs. Grossman was always the first customer to enter. Hi Mrs. Grossman yelled Tim.
With a great smile. What is wrong with you young man said Mrs. Grossman.
You are supposed to be miserable. Mrs. Grossman , when have you seen me unhappy.
All the time yelled Mrs. Grossman. I hope you will keep your big fat hands off the scale
today, yelled Mrs. Grossman. Dont worry Mrs Grossman. Today is your day.
What would you like today? I would like one lb of corn beef. one lb of roast beef.
and one lb of salami.  and two lbs of potato salad. You got it. Since you are a great customer I am going to throw in 2 lbs of cole slaw. Are you Ok Mr. Oreily ?
Maybe you need a vacation. I will talk to Abe and suggest he give you one.
Oh Mrs. Grossman thats ok. I really cherish my clients. Hmm said Mrs. Grossman to herself. The day went by, and Tim shocked all the customers with his smile and new attitude.
It was 5 :00 time to close up the shop and meet Avi at the Gym.
Bye Abe yelled Tim. Thank you Tim. Yelled Abe, see you tomorrow.
Tim walked briskly down the street as the sun started to set.
He was filled with excitment.
